Write it so someone can find it

The practical is half seeing and half reporting. Vague reports fail even when you saw the crack.

CWB’s practical wants identification, assessment, and descriptive reporting against a supplied generic standard. Write like this:

  1. 01What: the discontinuity name (undercut, not ‘a groove along the edge’). Use the glossary word.
  2. 02Where: member, joint ID, weld, face or root, toe or centreline, clock position on pipe, distance from a datum (left end, north face, 150 mm from mark A).
  3. 03How much: length, depth, diameter, spacing, remaining throat. Numbers with units.
  4. 04Compared to what: the clause or table in the supplied spec. Accept or reject with the number that decided it.
  5. 05Photo / sketch if allowed: arrows beat paragraphs.
